Strasburg Fire at Cameron Peak

Posted On: March 25, 2021 - 1:35am

With the explosive growth of the Cameron Peak fire, the State of Colorado requested all hands on deck to fight the blaze.  Using our experience with wildland firefighting on the I-70 corridor, Strasburg Fire answered the call as several of our volunteers and off duty staff stepped up to deploy as our very first wildland firefighting team.  Here is a peek into the challenges they overcame while assigned to night ops performing direct fire suppresion, triage of defensible structures and proactive preservation of homes in the path of the fire.
